What to Expect at a Life’s Patina Barn Sale

They certainly don’t make ’em like this anymore! Even if they did, they most likely would not be constructed to house a herd of dairy cows and the accoutrements it takes to care for them and farm the surrounding land. The construction of this late 1700’s stone bank barn is a work of art. Each stone was placed by hand, fitted together to create these walls that support massive hand hewn beams which criss cross across the barn to hold up the roof.

What is one to do with this jaw-dropping structure that is no longer used to house cows nor farm equipment? Open it up to the public four times a year for seasonally-inspired Barn Sales, of course! These stunning stone walls and weathered, worn wood are the perfect backdrop to show off our highly curated collection of vintage finds paired with our favorite new decor items in artful displays that evoke beauty and inspiration for our customers.

Each Barn Sale has a particular feel and design aesthetic based on the season and the treasures we have found on our picking trips. The vignettes we style are not only designed to attract you to the merchandise we have in the barn but also to draw you in, make you feel something and inspire you to think outside the box in your own home decor.

We love to pair the expected with the unexpected, highlighting the beauty of each item whether old or new.

We style each “room” in the barn based around a color palette. We pride ourselves on creating unique, seasonal displays and vignettes using colors and items that you might not typically think of. For example, for our Fall Barn Sale, we paired beautiful, natural-colored feathered nests with white pumpkins, birch and various hues of grey to create the perfect neutral tablescape that subtly evokes fall.

We like to pair colors that play off each other, mixing new with old, unique items in our tablescapes, such as this beautifully wrapped vintage bar of soap nestled in a circle of feathers to top each place setting. It is little elements such as these and the attention to detail in our vignettes that we hope inspire you in thinking about the little things which can have a big impact in your own home.

We like to show our guests how to pop a room with a statement piece that can house beautiful collections of  vintage china, artwork, and books to be used daily.

We like to create scenes of beauty by using architectural salvage items that we construct into backdrops. These backdrops create an atmosphere in which to show off the beauty of our curated vintage objects. These backdrops are also just as functional in decorating a home. Everything that you see is for sale!

We also integrate new items from our favorite artists and home decor/accessories companies.
