There is something powerful when a person takes a negative and turns it into a positive. When they fight through something daunting and difficult and come out surviving and thriving and vowing to give back. It is especially powerful when that fight has to do with your health, with a diagnosis of an illness that rocks your world in which the outcome is often something that you often have no control over. The result of that fight frequently hangs in the balance between beating the odds, access to medical care and the quality of that care, your genetic makeup, all out down right luck and to some, the power of prayer.
Unite for Her was founded by Sue Weldon, who came out of her battle with breast cancer, forever changed and propelled by that change to impact the lives of fellow breast cancer patients. She took the biggest negative of her life and has turned it into a positive force and support system for thousands of women in and around the Philadelphia area. We were so impressed by the mission of Unite For Her when we hosted our first Wellness Day here at the farm and after being asked to hold one again this Fall, we chose them to be our non-profit beneficiary for our upcoming Fall Barn Sale. We were thrilled that they said yes!
The Unite For Her Wellness Days are one of the components of the services and support they offer to women going through treatment for breast cancer. The days are focused on complimentary therapies that strengthen and support them while dealing with their medical treatment. Sue had discovered in her own experience with this disease that there was a lack of easily accessible resources on topics like nutrition, acupuncture, massage, yoga, counseling and others for breast cancer patients to enhance their wellness and care for their emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. Unite For Her brings those resources right to the women so they don’t have to search… not only do they bring them, they fully fund them for the participants. You can read more about their Wellness Days here!

It’s funny for as I was on the road a couple of days ago, picking up some special orders, I could not resist trying to grab a couple more finds for the upcoming sale. One of those finds was this book whose title I could not resist.
This title made made me think of all the woman who have started or precipitated the organizations that we have partnered with over the last seven years. Crazy how almost ALL of them, over twenty something of them, have been founded by women. Women who saw a need and acted upon that need. These women have not gained “famous” stature and their motivation was not based upon that goal but to be a great force in the lives of others.
May the force continue to be with us…
