Join us at Life’s Patina Mercantile & Café for a special Historical Afternoon Tea, an evening celebrating the timeless tradition of tea and the remarkable women who gathered around it.
Long before tea was simply an afternoon indulgence, it created space for conversation, friendship, and meaningful change. From the drawing rooms of England to the parlors where early suffragists planned for a more equal future, tea has long brought women together to connect, inspire, and shape history.
As part of the afternoon, we’ll begin with a brief presentation exploring the rich history of afternoon tea—from its introduction to the English court by Catherine of Braganza in the 17th century, to Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford, who popularized the beloved afternoon tea tradition, and the influential women who gathered over tea to champion social reform and the women’s suffrage movement.
Following the presentation, guests will enjoy a traditional tea service inspired by its historical origins, featuring an elegant assortment of classic tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and fruit curd, delicate tarts, petite cakes, and a curated selection of fine teas.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a lover of afternoon tea, or simply looking for a beautiful way to spend a summer evening, we invite you to gather with us for an experience that honors the enduring tradition of tea, conversation, and community.
We look forward to welcoming you to Life’s Patina Mercantile & Café for this memorable afternoon of history, hospitality, and tea.
