Life's Patina Mercantile & Cafe is nestled inside the historic Jenny Lind House, part of a living village the Lenape people named for its iron-rich mineral springs. What followed is an extraordinary American story, and we're honored to be its next chapter.

colonial health spa founded

A fashionable spa village drew visitors seeking healing waters — 600 guests in a single day at its height.

1722

America's first Revolutionary War military hospital

Commissioned by the Continental Congress to care for Washington's troops during the Valley Forge encampment.

1777-1778

Chester Springs Soldiers' Orphan School

Pennsylvania purchased the village to house orphaned children of Civil War soldiers — at its peak, home to 300 children.

1868-1912

Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts

The village became an arts retreat — a creative legacy that lives on in Life's Patina's artist residency program.

1916-1952

Good News Productions film studio

Over 400 films produced here, including the original sci-fi classic The Blob.
